A brief explanation of the various types of hair colors.

Brief Overview of Hair Colours
Permanent Color
This chemical procedure enables the user to achieve subtle to drastic color changes. For dramatic color changes (black to blonde), you must undergo a double process blonding which should be done professionally. With this level of coloring, ammonia and peroxide are used. These colors cannot be washed out of your hair.

Because natural hair pigments vary by individual, your final color may appear different on you than on someone else using the same color. This is why it is important to do a strand test to calculate processing time. Every 4-6 weeks a touch-up is needed for your newgrowth.  Use navigation bar on left to find out more about PERMANENT color.

Semi-Permanent
Chemical based colorant that lasts 4 to 6 weeks (or 6 to 12 shampoos). Semi-Permanent colors do not penetrate the cortex so the color fades with each shampoo. Good for darker shades if you want to deepen your natural color. Semi-permanent dyes cover up to 50% gray.  It contains no ammonia or peroxide.

Demi-Permanent
Designed to last longer than semi-permanent colors and are fairly new to the market. Stronger chemically, these can damage the hair so use as directed. They generally last product between 24 to 26 shampoos and do not contain ammonia. They do however contain a small amount of peroxide, which subtly enhances your color. It also blends and covers gray.

Semi-Temporary
Color is deposited on the outer layer and lasts up to 4-6 shampoos.

Temporary Color
Color disappears after one shampoo and conditioning. Temporary colors simply coat the shaft so they are among the least harmful dyes.

Henna
Natural and least damaging way of the chemical methods to alter your hair color. Henna is considered more of a temporary stain than a dye, but can be drying. Generally lasts 3-4 weeks. Use navigation bar on left to find out more about HENNA color!

Natural Solution
Lemon juice can be used as a natural dye, but it's acidic and can be very drying to the hair.  It's results are gradual and slow.
