Hair buns represent a classic and effortless hair styling option that has existed for centuries. Hair buns can be achieved on wet or dry hair. They can be as simple as you want to make them or elaborate with braids, twists and/or hair jewelry. They can be side parted, center parted, no-parts. Hair buns can be created in a matter of minutes and they never go out of style.
How to create a basic hair bunWe will begin by creating a ponytail. Where to position the ponytail is up to you. For instruction purposes, we will assume that you positioning your ponytail at the nape of your neck.
With a wide-tooth comb or quality brush, smooth hair backwards.
Gather hair into a ponytail and secure with a rubber band. Ideally, you would use an elastic that is coated with fabric as this will keep you from damaging your hair when it's time for the elastic to be removed.
Next, begin twisting your hair and spiraling it around the base of the ponytail until it buckles/collapses onto itself.
Tuck the thinner pad of the hair bun underneath and secure in place with pins. You should look for hair pins that best match your current hair color as they will blend better.

How to create a braided hair bunSource: http://hair-long.blogspot.com/2007/08/braided-bun.htmlSmooth hair with a wide-tooth brush or comb.
Make a pony tail just below the crown of your head (middle of the back of your head) - "I Dream of Jeannie" style.
Secure the ponytail with a fabric encased elastic band.
Next, we're going to section your pony tail so that we can create two braids.

While your hair is still in the elastic and secured in a ponytail (as in image 1), divide the length of the ponytail into two equal size sections. You should now have one ponytail with two tails.
Braid each tail. You should now have one ponytail secured with elastic with two braided tails extending from the pony.
Secure the end of each braided section with a transparent or light-weight, fabric encased elastic that is similar in color to your hair.
Wrap one braid in a clockwise direction and the other counter-clockwise.
Secure each braid underneath your bun with pins.
